The rarity of the whetstone is recommended in his microcrystalic and thin-grain character.
In central Italy and in Belgium but also in Japan, we meet natural abrasive Stones that however are mainly carbides and do not lead to immaculate smoothing.
In one only part of the world we find similar mining that brings the name Novaculite and has the same chemical composition and the same abrasive faculties with our own Elouda whetstone. It is the Stone “Arcansas” in Arcansas of Northern America.
Of course most needs of smoothing of blades are satisfied henceforth by artificial Stones with chemical composition of type “carbide” or “corundum” that they have standardised dimensions and are very cheaper. However for those who knows the quality of smoothing that the “Stone of East” gives is insuperable and unique.
